Biography
Rafael Alipio holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Federal Center for Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG), Brazil, where he leads the Electromagnetic Transients Laboratory (LabTEM). From 2022 to 2024, he was a Scientific Collaborator at the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory of EPFL, Switzerland, working on electromagnetic transients and lightning protection in power and renewable-energy systems. His main areas of expertise include the lightning performance of overhead transmission lines, tower-footing grounding, surge protection, electromagnetic transients, and frequency-dependent ground effects. He has extensive experience in the modelling and practical assessment of transmission-line performance, including industry-oriented studies on grounding and lightning protection, and provides technical consulting in this field.
